Call for Entries: "Freecycle Fashion Show"

Jacoby Arts Center is currently accepting entries for the “Freestyle Fashion Show” as part of the “13th annual Mississippi Earthtones Festival(300-500 E. Broadway, downtown Alton). The Fashion Show takes place at the Festival’s JAC Stage and begins at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2019 by hosting a fashion show with artists who use recycled and re-purposed fibers & materials.
For “Freestyle Fashion Show,” professional & amateur designers are invited to turn waste into fashion by creating unique garments/costumes out of recycled materials, including used materials/waste that would otherwise go to the landfills; items that might be discarded after use such as newsprint, aluminum cans, plastic, decks of cards, VCR tapes, wrapping or packaging materials, wire, etc. Categories: Youth-Children 12 & under.  Work will be judged for the best use of recycled materials.  at least 50% of the garment/costume must be recycled. Sci-Fi/Fantasy-Let your imagination go wild. Show off with Steampunk, Cosplay, or other fantasy garment.  At least 50% must be recycled. Trashiest-Minimum 90% of garment must be completely recycled. No newly purchased, commercial materials. Classiest-This fun category includes evening ware, elegant ware, classy items that one could wear out on the town. At least 50% must be recycled. Prizes awarded to 1st & 2nd place in each category along with sashes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place.  A special award will be given for "Best Accessory" that accompanies a garment/costume. Featured artists will also be provided a professional photograph of their work for use in their portfolio. $10/entry. Artist not required to submit a photo, but your ideas, supplies, materials used, design/construction process must be included with registration. Youth category limit: 1 entry; non-youth participants limit 2 entries per category. Designers must provide own models for event. Final description of each garment/costume needs to be submitted to by August 21, 2019.  Your description will serve as the copy that is read during the fashion show. Participants and their models must arrive at Festival grounds by 4 p.m., September 21, 2019.
